Mukona Group has acquired Mega Pile, a leading South African specialist in piling, lateral support and ground improvement.

The acquisition brings together complementary expertise to create a comprehensive geotechnical services provider capable of supporting projects from initial ground investigation and testing through to engineering design and construction.

Through its four operational divisions—Mukona Consulting Engineers, Mukona Geotechnics, Mukona In-Situ and Mega Pile—the Group can now provide clients with a fully integrated range of geotechnical services. These include site investigations, drilling, laboratory testing, in-situ testing, engineering design, piling, lateral support and ground improvement.

Integrated solutions from investigation to construction

The combined capabilities enable Mukona Group to provide practical, reliable and cost-effective foundation solutions for infrastructure and development projects, including bridges, basements, renewable energy facilities, urban developments and other complex construction environments.

“Bringing together our expertise allows us to provide clients with optimised and cost-effective foundation solutions for major infrastructure projects,” says Mukona Group Managing Director and founder, Solly Phalanndwa.

The acquisition supports Mukona Group’s strategy of expanding its regional footprint while maintaining the high standards of quality, technical expertise and client service for which both companies are known.

Mukona Group and Mega Pile currently operate across South Africa, with the Group expanding its presence into Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This growing regional capability will allow Mukona to respond to increasing infrastructure requirements throughout Southern Africa.

Continuity, collaboration and shared expertise

Mega Pile will retain its established brand and leadership structure, with John Oliver continuing in his role as Chief Operating Officer. This ensures operational continuity for existing clients while opening new opportunities through access to the wider Mukona Group’s resources and technical expertise.

The acquisition also strengthens Mega Pile’s market position as a Level 1 B-BBEE company.

Both companies will continue their existing operations while collaborating more closely across projects. This approach will promote knowledge sharing, strengthen technical capabilities and create additional professional development opportunities across the Group.

Building a complete geotechnical service offering

Looking ahead, Mukona Group is considering the development of a dedicated in-house soil and materials testing laboratory. This would further integrate the technical process and allow the Group to improve efficiency, quality control and precision throughout the project lifecycle.

The acquisition of Mega Pile represents an important step in Mukona Group’s continued growth. By combining investigation, testing, consulting, design and specialist construction capabilities, the Group is well positioned to deliver trusted, integrated geotechnical solutions across Southern Africa.
