The primary objective was to determine the geotechnical characteristics and engineering properties of the subsurface and tailings materials. The investigation was completed in accordance with relevant SANRAL standard specifications and included a combination of in-situ testing and borehole drilling.
The results provided the geotechnical parameters required to assess the tailings facility’s factor of safety, risk profile and long-term stability. The investigation also supported the mine’s assessment of the facility against the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). The project was completed over eight months during 2025.
