The approximately 345–362-metre cable-stayed bridge connects Kasomeno in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Mwenda in Zambia.
The bridge forms part of the wider Kasomeno–Mwenda Toll Road Project, which also includes a modern one-stop border post and associated toll facilities. Mukona’s work focused on the exposed rock conditions at the bridge’s pier and abutment foundation excavations.
The investigation assessed the stability of the foundation footprints and excavation highwalls. Detailed geological mapping, rock-mass classification and stability analyses were completed to identify structural features and provide recommendations for the safe construction of the foundations and surrounding excavations.
