Geotechnical Drilling and Materials Investigation of the proposed Kruisvallei Dam site

Mukona Geotechnics was appointed by Knysna Municipality to undertake a geotechnical drilling and materials investigation for the proposed Kruisvallei Dam. The objective was to establish the site’s geological and geotechnical conditions and provide the information required for the dam’s engineering design.

The proposed site is located approximately 30 km north of Knysna in the Western Cape, with the drilling locations situated on public land administered by SANParks. The investigation included a combination of vertical and inclined boreholes to assess subsurface conditions across the proposed development area.

Rock cores and material samples recovered during drilling were transported for laboratory testing, while in-situ water-pressure testing was completed to assess the permeability of the rock mass. The two-month investigation was completed during 2025.
