AB InBev Brewery Development – Dewatering Strategy

Mukona Consulting Engineers was appointed by Prime Squared Consulting Engineers to develop a dewatering strategy for the proposed AB InBev brewery development at the existing SAB depot in Vereeniging, Gauteng.

The investigation focused on Portions 237, 238 and 239 of the farm Leeukuil 596 and built on an earlier dolomite-stability and geotechnical investigation completed by Mukona Consulting Engineers. Shallow groundwater had been identified near the northern boundary of the existing depot, requiring a practical groundwater-management solution for the proposed construction works.

Based on the observed ground and groundwater conditions, sump pumping was recommended as the most practical and cost-effective dewatering method. The proposed system directs groundwater through drainage trenches into sump pits outside the active work areas, where duty and standby pumps can safely remove the collected water.
